Musical - A Life with True Meaning

On Friday 2/7/03 at 7:30 PM, we will be presenting the musical A Life with True Meaning at the Connections meeting.

All of us know non-Christians, but many of us are inhibited to share the gospel story with our non-Christian co-workers, neighbors, family, etc. This is a short musical that illustrates the story of a Christian brother who extends a gentle hand to a non-Christian sister.

Michael and Susan had been friends for some time.  He had already invited Susan to his church, but she had not yet accepted his offer.  Through his loving approach, Susan finally expresses an interest in attending a church service with him.

The musical opens with the energetic song --- For The Lord is Good ---

For the Lord is good, and His love endures forever.

He's a faithful God, to all generations.

For the Lord is good, and His mercies will not fail us.

They are new each day, O lift your voice and say The Lord is Good.

In the first scene, Susan tells Michael that she is feeling down and questions the value of life.  Michael uses this as an opportunity to talk about the breadth of God's love.  He tells her that God never promised that things on this earth would be easy, and that God cares for her and loves her.  We sing --- Lord Most High ---

In the next scene, Michael tells Susan that God is not only the creator of the universe; He is also the savior of mankind; and that God sent His Son Jesus Christ to come to Earth to die so that we could have eternal life.  Michael sings the verse of --- God So Loved the World (Hillsong) --- as a solo to Susan.  The choir and audience then join in.

In the final scene, Michael restates that God came to Earth and gave His only Son so that we could have eternal life.  Susan responds that she would not want to live her present lonely life forever.  Michael tells Susan that life with Jesus Christ is anything but lonely…it's a life with true meaning.  Susan responds " I guess you're right.  Am I still invited to your church?Michael says "Of course".  We sing the closing song  --- For The Lord is Good ---

The musical ends there.  Susan was probably not ready to receive the Lord at that time, but through Michael's friendship, she will be going to his church and will hear the gospel.

Many times, God uses us to plant a seed for Him that others will later water and harvest.  It is our hope that this story will encourage others to reach out to a friend and simply invite them to church.  Although a small step, it is a first step.
